QUOTE
The National Lacrosse League handed down suspensions to San Jose Stealth players Matt Roik and Ryan Marshall and also to Colorado Mammoth defender Rich Catton, stemming from incidents coming out of games played this past weekend.

Roik was hit with a ten minute intentional contact during a dead ball situation misconduct during the Stealth’s 12-10 loss to the Calgary Roughnecks. Necks forward Scott Ranger had just iced the game at the 14:43 mark of the fourth period and would later get struck by Roik near the team benches, dropping to the turf after contact was made.

Marshall’s suspension is due to a high hit he dished out during the Stealth’s other loss in Week 2, coming at the 11:16 mark of the third period against the Minnesota Swarm.

And finally, Catton was hit with a sit-down after coming off the bench to fight Portland Lumberjax’s defender Brodie Merrill. Previous to the tilt, Catton had rocked Jax’s forward Ryan Powell with what appeared to be an illegal shot to the head. The hit on Powell went undisciplined during the game.

All three suspensions appear to be one gamers, although, expect each player to appeal the suspension.

In other player movement, the Colorado Mammoth signed 32-year old American keeper Jeremy Ogden to their practice roster this past week, which certainly may have been spurred on by the team’s lackluster showing against Portland in the second half of their home-and-home in Week 2 (make sure to scroll down to the links for a great read on Ogden from March 2007).

In order to shore up a spot for Ryan Benesch in Edmonton, the Rush have released former Toronto Rock prospect, Mike MacLeod, and earlier in the week dropped Daryl Gibson to make room for the recently signed Callum Crawford. NLL Insider’s Steve Kojima also confirmed that Benesch will be in the lineup this weekend when the Rush host the Portland Lumberjax on Friday night. It will be Benesch’s first start during the 2009 season after being a healthy scratch for both of the Toronto Rock’s games this year, pervious of course to yesterday’s trade.

Is that the hit that eventually lead to the 10-minute game misconduct?

That should be the hit that was delivered to Chad Culp that ended with the 10-minute misconduct.

I agree the hit on Culp was most likely the suspended for hit in our game. The league must consider appeal from the teams if one of the suspended hits was not penalized during the game.

They need to hear the appeals regardless if the play was penalized during the game.

I agree there will be a chance to appeal the suspension. What I intended was that a team that thought a call was missed must somehow be able to bring that to the attension of the league.

I'm sure that the league will hear about a non-call. I wonder if any punishment will be dealt to the officials who missed those calls? Last year was pretty tough for the officials.

I just watched the Roik play. Ranger was standing next to his bench after scoring the goal. Roik, on his way to the Stealth bench, ran by Ranger and took a good swing at him. It looks like Roik's stick hit Ranger in the chest area. It definitely looks intentional.

Did anyone talk to Chad after the game?
Is he OK? No lasting effects from the cheap shot?

He seemed fine after a little bit on the bench. More peved than anything. Dunno about anything lasting.

Though, the way the teams played, it makes me think we may have a new western rivalry.

He seemed pretty normal at the aftergame gathering. And someone help be out here. He continued to play in the game, and I did not notice any lasting effects.

I talked to him at Tom Reid's and he seemed fine. I don't think the hit did much to him.
