Swarm Fans,

We apologize for the innappropriate posts made on the message boards on Oct. 1. Many boards and sites including the NHL team message boards suffered serious spam attacks. Below is an excerpt from our provider's website regarding the situation:

"IPS has received reports of boards receiving registrations by "spam bots" which register and post a high number of spam posts in the forums. These bots are automated scripts which, depending on your registration setup, can bypass the current Captcha system included in IP.Board series. While troublesome, this does not present a security threat to the safety of your board's database, member information, or passwords."

The boards were taken offline for updates to combat this problem. Our provider is currently developing additional measures that will be implemented in the coming weeks. All offending posts and users have already been deleted from the system. Registration will now require admin validation until the remaining upgrades are complete. We appreciate the help of our moderators in eliminating many of these posts as they took place. We will continue to monitor this situation to ensure the best fan community in lacrosse. Thank you for your understanding and again, we apologize for the inconvenience.

I thought all new accounts required admin validation after the last time we got nailed with spam. This was the time Corporal and I became moderators.

I'm more than willing to lend a hand any way that I can.

I just wanted to put forward my thanks to the moderators for their attemptst to keep the spammers at bay. I know the two fan-moderators make at least daily checks and probably more frequently then that to keep our boards friendly for all of our fans.

There were times that as many as 6 spammers were signed in, and it was difficult to keep up while actively deleting, and they continued to pop-up to spread more psots. It was a truly noble effort. I appreciate that it took locking the site down to get everything cleaned-up. That just goes to show the "brute force" that was being applied by those intent on spreading the crap they dish out.

My Swarm Logo cap is off to both John and John, as well as the other moderators!

It's quite sad when poeple derive pleasure from being idiots and annoying others.

Thanks to everyone for their help keeping the boards clean! It is so irritating and frustrating when that stuff happens.
