The Rush improved to 2-6 on the season with their overtime victory
Mike Hominuck scored the game-winning goal just over a minute into the overtime period as Edmonton held of a late Rochester rally for a 10-9 victory over the Knighthawks at Rexall Place on Saturday evening. With the win, the Rush improve to 2-6 on the season while the defending NLL champions fall to 4-5 with their third loss in their last four games.
The Rush took a quick 1-0 lead in the first quarter on a goal by Brenden Thenhaus before the Knighthawks scored three straight to take a 3-1 advantage with 58 seconds remaining in the period.
After back-to-back goals by Lindsay Plunkett and Jimmy Quinlan tied the score at 3-3, the Knighthawks used another three-goal spurt to take a 6-3 lead into the intermission.
Edmonton and Rochester traded goals midway through the third quarter before the Rush got tallies from Dan Stroup and Steve Hutchins to take a 7-6 advantage with 50 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
The Rush led by 9-8 with 3:57 remaining in the fourth quarter after recording three of the first four goals in the frame. However, Shawn Williams scored off a feed from John Grant with 50 ticks left to force overtime, setting up Hominuck's heroics.
